Could couples therapy help us?
There’s no single reason why couples come to therapy. Sometimes, something unexpected or urgent has happened. Sometimes the same issues keep coming up. And sometimes things are good, but you’d like to understand each other better or feel more connected.
Couples therapy can help when you’re:
- Having the same arguments and feeling stuck
- Struggling to communicate or feel understood
- Feeling distant or disconnected from each other
- Working through a loss of trust or infidelity
- Experiencing changes in intimacy or your sex life
- Navigating parenting, family pressures or a major life transition
- Trying to make an important decision about your future together
- Wanting to strengthen an already healthy relationship or deepen your connection
You don’t need to wait until your relationship is in crisis. Therapy can give you dedicated time to slow things down, understand what’s happening between you and find new ways to move forward together.
What happens in couples therapy?
People come to therapy for different reasons. You may have something you want to work through, or you may simply want to better understand each other, deepen your connection and invest in the relationship you already have.
Couples therapy isn’t about deciding who’s right or who’s wrong. James brings a grounded, non-judgemental perspective, taking the time to understand both of your experiences, and help you better understand each other.
Together, you’ll explore the patterns that shape your relationship; what’s obvious to both of you, as well as what may be happening beneath the surface. James can offer insights, tools and strategies to help you communicate more openly, navigate challenges and strengthen your connection.
He creates a space where both partners can speak honestly, feel heard and learn more about each other. You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to change or where the conversation will lead. Figuring that out can be part of the work.
What if one of us isn’t sure about therapy?
It’s common for two people to feel differently about starting therapy. One of you may be ready to talk, while the other may be unsure what to expect, skeptical that it will help, or simply uncomfortable with the idea.
You don’t both need to arrive feeling equally certain. James will meet you where you are, without pressure or judgment. The first step is simply a conversation — a chance to talk about what brought you in, ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels right.
Starting with a conversation is enough.
